Private Thomas McCready Ross

 

 

Thomas McCready Ross (left) was born on 21 November 1897 at Ballydown, Islandmagee, County Antrim, second of three children of sailor Samuel Ross and his wife Eliza Jane (nee McCready).

He enlisted in the North Irish Horse, during the war, but did not see overseas service.

After the war he followed has father's trade, working as a merchant seaman, and becoming a master mariner.

On 27 December 1922 he married Ellen Moore of Hillmount, Islandmagee.

 

The other man in the picture is Ross's pal William McCalmont.
